In 1315, the estate passed into the hands of William de Middleton. Later, in 1757, the land’s owner commissioned architect James Paine to design the current mansion, which was completed in 1763.

It’s home to Yorkshire’s largest Christmas tree plantation, with over 500,000 trees. Stockeld Park’s modern chapter began in 2006 when Peter and Susie Grant opened a Christmas tree shop, selling trees directly to the local community. This marked the beginning of a transformation. They later introduced England’s first illuminated Enchanted Forest, adorned with whimsical sculptures and festive lights, followed by a unique illuminated yew tree maze, a large outdoor skating rink, and an artificial ski trail.

Stockeld Park continued to evolve. In 2013, the park expanded, adding themed play areas, a go-kart track, large inflatable play zones, and the Playhive, one of Europe’s largest indoor play centers. The Playhive features four themed worlds—Space, Air, Jungle, and Sea—complete with numerous slides, tunnels, and suspension bridges.
