The Crossgates practice other dentists refer into

Tony Heum and his wife Marina bought a small surgery in east Leeds in 1994, renamed it Church View, and in 2020 moved everything into a purpose-built site with eight treatment rooms. What marks it out is the traffic running the other way: neighbouring practices send their own patients here for gum surgery, implants and panoramic radiographs. The practice company passed to the Dentex group in 2022, and Heum remains a registered manager.

Treatments

Examinations and radiographs, tooth-coloured fillings, root canal treatment, crowns, bridges and veneers, whitening and stain removal, children’s dentistry, mouthguards and hygiene visits. Straightening is done with Invisalign by certified providers. Gum health has its own pathway, from pocket charting at the check-up through to periodontal surgery. Implants are placed and restored on site; dentures come in acrylic, cobalt-chrome and flexible Valplast.

Who practises here

Dr James Chesterman took a five-year specialist programme in restorative dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute and a British Society of Periodontology fellowship in Bern. Since 2020 he has been a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and clinical lead for periodontal services at that institute, and every periodontal and implant referral is seen by him. Tony Heum has placed implants since 2006, after training with the Royal College of Surgeons and in Frankfurt and Tubingen. Marcus Green, here since 2003, works in digital dentistry; Katie Steed and Harriet Long cover general care, bonding and aligners. Five hygienists and hygiene therapists carry the prevention side.

Dentures from the technician who makes them

Joe O’Reilly is a clinical dental technician with a Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh diploma, registered to see denture patients directly. He does the chairside stages and the laboratory work himself, so nothing is lost between surgery and bench.
